Jon’s
classes will focus on the four main elements of the LehrerDance
style: Circularity, Momentum, Three-Dimensionality, and
Athleticism. Dancers will experience a class that engages
their entire physicality, combining elements of ballet, modern,
and jazz to achieve a more efficient and engrossing method of
movement and expression.
Mr.
Janczewski teaches a highly physical and innovative class. Movements
change from the soft and supple to the quick reflexes of the
body to explore the different dynamics the body can execute.
Emphasis is on the personal commitment to and understanding of
movement. Students explore the physical limitations of their
individual body. How far off vertical? How expansive in space?
How far can one reach their distal ends in counterpoint opposition?
Taught by aTrek Collective Artist, Kristin Best,
assistant professor at Lindenwood University, this class
is a blend of modern principles and jazz dance styles. This
high-energy, athletic class will begin in the center
focusing on conditioning and technique, followed
by progressions across the floor and a center combination.
Taught by aTrek Collective
artists, this class is designed to teach the basics of partnering
in the tradition of Contact Improvisation. This class will start
with the fundamentals of lifting and being lifted and move on
to more advanced partnering. It will prepare students
for advanced partnering work in other IMPULSE classes and weekend
workshops.
Specially designed
for IMPULSE, these classes will be held at The
Pilates & Yoga Center of St. Louis located
just fifteen minutes from the Centene Center for Arts & Ed.
Pilates’ unique focus is on strengthening the muscles
between your hips and sternum--your "powerhouse"--its
central source of power, balance, and movement. The Pilates
program is designed to help develop a strong back and good
posture by promoting muscle balance and strength, improving
joint mobility, and increasing flexibility. This helps you
to stand taller and straighter. Pilates’ reformers
access the weak or underused areas of your body to uniformly
build alignment, muscular balance, and aerobic, flowing movement.
The Pole System benefits the body by supporting movement
through spring tension to better develop resilient, powerful
muscles; strong, smooth, decompressed joints; and potent
core strength.
This series
will focus on training dancers to reach beyond technique to
achieve a stage presence that is compelling and makes the audience
WANT to watch the dancer. This class will ask students to consider
what makes the difference between a good dancer and a professional
dancer (beyond technique), and is also designed to give students
a boost for upcoming auditions. During week 1, students will
learn repertory from LehrerDance and perform in that weekend's
Festival showcase. During students will learn rep from
the aTrek Dance Collective and perform at one of both of that
weekend's showcases.
