DEVELOPING ARTISTS PROJECT
The Developing Artists Project offers a structure to support choreographers in the development of new works, and gives local dancers an opportunity to work with new choreographers and be seen on stage. Participants are invited to be a part of a series of informal showings where choreographers will receive feedback and review by local dance professionals and other accomplished members of the dance community.

STRUCTURE OF SUPPORT includes auditions, choreography labs, low-cost choreographic and dance technique classes, deadlines, in-progress showings, formal feedback sessions with dance professionals, help getting connected with dancers/choreographers, access to low cost rehearsal space, access to aTrek costume stock, and performance opportunities.  This program culminates in an informal public performance of created works during the IMPULSE Dance Festival and an opportunity to get a high quality video of works created.

SHOWINGS AND FEEDBACK take place regularly with a panel of professional choreographers and educators as well as friends and family of participants. Feedback sessions will follow the Liz Lerman Critical Response method. Feedback sessions are optional but required for artists wishing to have their work presented on an aTrek Dance Collective professional concert.

DAP currently offers two tracks for the development of new works. Participants can be a part of one or both tracks as a dancer, choreographer or both.

TRADITIONAL WORKS TRACK will support artists in creating traditional dances for performance in a proscenium theater and/or on a stage.

PORTABLE PERFORMANCES TRACK will be include more direction and support by aTrek's professional artists to include participants in making and performing portable works for non-traditional and community spaces. This DAP opportunity will be collaborative and encourage outrageous ways of engaging traditionally non-dance audiences.  Dancers will have the opportunity to participate in salsa, firedancing, and flash mob performances.

CHOREOGRAPHERS are invited to: create new works for either or both tracks; workshop material; participate in choreographic exercises; receive guidance and training; see others' works in-progress; discuss issues in choreography; get feedback on their work.

DANCERS are invited to: take technique classes; get to know the aTrek Dance Collective and other local dancers and choreographers; participate in the development of new or existing works; rehearse and perform.

This program is a key pathway to working with aTrek professionally and/or becoming a member of the aTrek Dance Collective. As a collective, aTrek is always looking for artists. The best way for us to determine whether we are a good fit is to work together in a lab environment. Appropriate DAP projects may be invited to perform on an aTrek professional concert. DAP choreographers may be invited to make or reset work on the aTrek Dance Collective. DAP dancers may be invited to perform with the aTrek Dance Collective.

You must be 18 (by May 1) in order to participate as a choreographer.  Dancers under 18 will be considered on a case by case basis.

Anyone interested in participating in this program as either a dancer or choreographer should email dancers@atrekdance.org to be put on the mailing list for this program.

Cost to participate:
$20 to participate in DAP as a choreographer or dancers.
$5/per hour for aTrek rehearsal space
$5/class - (optional) aTrek technique classes.
